1. TRAIL TALK

Hey friends. I hope you're having a good week after last weekend's big race efforts at Addo, AfricanX, and Magoebaskloof.

Covid survey.
Last issue I asked whether you'd like to share your thoughts on entering trail events while Covid restrictions are still in force. Unfortunately I hadn't checked that the survey was open. It is now.

An honest mistake, but at least I hadn't done something really embarrassing...

2. YOUR ADVENTURES

Your photos.
Stuart McDonald
says he became the first person to run the 83km Hermanus Camino FKT Challenge from point to point (pic above). In doing so he raised R65,000 for the Hermanus Animal Welfare Society to protect domestic animals in the region.

If you didn't see his and others' posts, share your trail adventure pics to this week's Facebook post

Some of your adventures included:

  • Thabo N Manyane got his 100miler buckle at Addo Elephant Trail Run.

  • Liz Brash explored Cave Peak in Silvermine East.

  • Arno van der Merwe did the Magoebaskloof forest 50km. "It was a proper trail race and challenge. 2500 vert, blood, mud, sweat and tears."

  • Waheeb Slarmie ran the AfricanX Trailrun with Wisahl Ganief. They enjoyed the downill sections on Day 3 the most.

  • Liandra Figeland was mesmerised by the magical forests of Tonnelbos in the Outeniqua mountains (photo of her by Christel Malek below).

5. NEWS

Anele Bans has had a good start to 2022. First he won Trail Runner of the Year Award for 2020 and 2021 at the West Coast Athletic Club Awards in mid-March. Then last weekend he finished second in the 100 miler at Addo Elephant Trail Run.

I've been fortunate to report on or run six of the last seven Addo Elephant Trail Runs, and all of them have been remarkable. Last weekend was the 18th edition and I was honoured to be part of Sian and Sheena O'Keeffe's team, handling their social media (Instagram / Facebook).

Standout performance of the event was Catherine Williamson's new record in the 76km. And yours. Of course!

Check out the photo album by Richard Pearce for an insight into what makes this event one of SA's most endearing races for trail runners of every ability and ambition. I hope to see you there next year.
